Exploring Careers in Journalism
As a high school student, I’ve always been fascinated by storytelling. Journalism, the art of reporting and sharing information, seems like a natural path for those who love to write, investigate, and share stories with the world. But what does a career in journalism actually look like?
With the introduction of ChatGPT many think that journalism is a career that will become obsolete, but I disagree.
Journalists do more than just write articles—they can work in TV, radio, online media, or even podcasts. A day in the life of a journalist might involve researching a story, interviewing sources, fact-checking, and writing articles. For those interested in visuals, photojournalism or videography can be exciting options.
It’s important to stay curious and ask tough questions. Journalists must be passionate about uncovering the truth and telling stories that matter, from local news to global events. Some paths in journalism include working for newspapers, magazines, or online news platforms, but there are also jobs in social media, PR, and digital content creation.
Getting involved in a school newspaper, blog, or YouTube channel is a great way to start. Journalism helps you develop writing, research, and critical thinking skills, all of which are valuable no matter what career you pursue. Plus, it’s a field where you can make a real difference by informing the public and shining a light on important issues.
If you’re like me and love the idea of bringing stories to life, journalism might just be the perfect fit!
