My MUN Experience
By Maryam Bajwa, Grade 9 / Year 10 Student

This past January, I went to GWAMUN 2025 in Dubai- this was my experience.
GWAMUN is the biggest MUN of the year, so I was a little nervous seeing as it was my first ever MUN. I pictured a large, scary room with dozens of extremely formal people who knew exactly what they were doing.
The reality was much different.
I was in a committee where a lot of people were absent, which I’m honestly thankful for- it made the whole experience a lot less stressful. In fact, most people haven't been to any MUN’s before. The chairs were also really nice and understanding.
I was in the school debate club for a few years, so in terms of debates and POI’s (point of information, aka questions you ask speakers) I had some experience. If you're looking to join an MUN meeting, definitely make sure you're comfortable with public speaking. You'll be doing a lot of that.
Also, be prepared. Don't just research your own countries, research other countries. Look for weak points in their arguments.
Finally, participate whenever you can. If you don't have anything meaningful to say, don't say it, but if you do, make sure it's heard.
In the end, GWAMUN was a really fun and educational experience. I actually ended up winning second best delegate. If you ever see me at any future MUN meetings, be sure to say hi!
